There are so many amazing women both past and present whose strength, courage, talent and intelligence are a source of endless inspiration. So to celebrate Women’s History Month, here are five empowering quotes from history-making women to read and share with your friends – so we can all be inspired to be our boldest, bravest, very best versions of ourselves!
1.
Even before she made history as the first African-American First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama had accomplished an impressive amount. In addition to being a lawyer, writer, public servant, wife and mother, she has been a tireless advocate of important issues like higher education, healthier living and poverty awareness. Being in the public eye can’t be easy, but our admirable First Lady exudes strength, confidence and intelligence – not to mention a flawless sense of style – in all she does.

Another inspiring First Lady with an impeccable flair for fashion, Jackie Kennedy is perhaps best remembered for her beauty and grace. But she was first and foremost a strong, intelligent and exceptionally eloquent woman. Being well traveled and well read, Jackie always expressed herself confidently and directly.
As a mother, she shared her love of learning and books with her children. As First Lady, she took charge of the restoration of the White House as a national treasure, and her scholarly approach to historic preservation earned her great admiration in Washington. She showed poise and dignity even in the face of tragedy, proving that a woman’s strength should never be underestimated – and a woman’s voice should never be dismissed.
Let her inspire you to: express yourself more confidently by making reading and writing a lifelong habit – start a journal, join a book club, or take a class in a subject that has always interested you!

She lit up the screen as Lucy Ricardo on “I Love Lucy,” but Lucille Ball wanted to be remembered for her courage and boldness as much as for her wit – and I’m more than happy to oblige! Today, the world of comedy and television is brimming with strong, successful women, but it was the trailblazers like Ms. Ball who paved the way. She was the first woman to run a major television studio, the first female to be inducted into the Television Academy’s Hall of Fame, one of the first women to appear onscreen pregnant and one of the first to wear pants on television. Lucille Ball was truly a pioneer and a sparkling inspiration to dream big and never give up!
Let her inspire you to: be brave and believe in yourself, even when you encounter obstacles. Whether you want to be on Broadway, start your own business or run your first 5K, start telling yourself you can do it and go for it!

Princess Diana left behind a legacy of profound compassion for the well-being of others. Her words reflect the heart-centered, deeply humanistic approach she took in everything she did, whether raising her own beloved children or working to improve the lives of sick and underprivileged children the world over. She played an integral role in banning landmines and changing public opinion of those suffering from AIDS, and she will forever be a shining example of the unequaled power of compassion.
Let her inspire you to: be more compassionate and reach out to someone who is suffering – make a point to include others, lend an ear to someone who’s having a bad day, visit an older relative who doesn’t get out of the house very often.

Let’s be honest, the real champions of Women’s History Month are the ones with the world’s toughest job: being a mother! They may not all be famous, but every mother is a hero to her family. She wears many hats – caretaker, nanny, cook, housekeeper, scheduler, teacher, referee, cheerleader, chauffeur, role model, guidance counselor, financial advisor, best friend, babysitter, grandmother – basically, she’s a superhero.
Let her inspire you to: be more selfless, and give back to the people who do so much for us – surprise Mom with a “just because” card, take your grandmother out to lunch, or offer to do THEIR laundry for once!
Celebrate Mom with one-of-a-kind mother’s jewelry and gifts – don’t forget Mother’s Day is May 10!
